PCYC Recycled Raft launching with Jan Clifford

Mon 27 Sep 2010

The "Recyclable Regatta" took the next step in its build up today with the PCYC school holiday crew launching their recycled raft at the Airlie Beach Lagoon.

The prototype looked to need some further inspiration to aid rigidity, but undetered the kids loaded up and the vessel did float.

On hand was Councillor Jan Clifford who was very impressed by the creation and very supportive of the children's effort and education about recycling. She also announced that she was going to introduce a bill to council that would see non-recyclable plastic bags banned from the Whitsundays Shire. This would certainly be a step in the right direction, as the pristine Whitsundays remains under threat from plastics and marine debris washed onto islands and beaches every day.

For more information about entering the Recyclable Regatta visit the relevant event page on the Whitsunday Reef Festival  web site at www.WhitsundayReefFestival.com.au or call John Nayler on 0407 15 13 11.

The Recyclable Regatta is occuring as part of the Bareboat Open Day display at Abel Point Marina on Satuday 23rd of October 2010.
