Hamilton Island Race Week - Day 2 introduction

Sun 23 Aug 2009

Another day of light Northerley conditions greeted competitors in Audi Hamilton Island Race Week 2009. At the Southern start the race committee attempted a start for IRC Passage 1 and 2 with virtually no boats able to make the start line as the tide washed the fleet toward the pin.

With the first starts abandoned, the majority of the fleet held station, with an opportunity for a French lesson, a swim and discussion of the Rugby scores.

In the distance the IRC grand prix fleet is racing East of Hamilton Island in light North East conditions.

12:45 pm update. With reports of N winds 6-8 knots North of Dent, the fleet is moving to make a start at that location. The expectation is to sail across to White Rock and return to Hamilton island in very light condtions.

Crews contesting Monday's long race would be concerned about completing anything like a serious race, as the early start presently has the fleet sailing against a head tide in the Dent Passage ... and likely nil wind.
