Inaugural writing competition announced

Budding young writers will have a chance to showcase their talents in the inaugural Graphic House Writers Competition as part of this year’s Big4 Adventure Whitsunday Reef Festival.
Event coordinator Amie McKay said the event was created to engage local students in a creative way as part of the festival.
"Entrants can write a story or poem about 'reef preservation' or 'our unique community' which we thought was an appropriate theme given the Reef Festival is a celebration of both of those things," Ms McKay said.
"There are some great prizes on offer and the winners will be announced at the Telstra Whitsunday Family Fun Day on the Sunday of Reef Festival," she said.
"There are also free writing workshops especially created by the Writers of the Whitsundays group throughout the family fun day event,"
"Our young people are the future of our community, and will become the leaders in preserving our environment, and we hope this competition will spark some positive thoughts for our young locals."
