Hamilton Island Race Week Kicks Off 25th Celebrations With A Bang

Tonight the skies over Hamilton Island erupted with a fireworks display to kick of the 25th Hamilton Island Race Week. On the ground, the vibe at the Marina Tavern Beer Garden was set to music from Wolverines, HIRW performer from years past Diesel and later favourite "Captain Spalding".
The 1000+ strong crowd of party goers included many newcomers to the event, who seemed unaware that first night reveling was a recipe for disaster come the start of the first race around Lindeman island in forecast 20+ knots of SSE breeze. Absent were the serious crews, with curfews in force across the IRC and performance fleets.
