Pirates a plenty

Sat 07 Jul 2012

With 5 weeks to go until Whitsunday Reef Festival, 16 – 19 August, the PIRATE THEME has taken a grip on Airlie Beach. Saturday just past had a pirate attack repelled by a hoard of local pirate children and parents who dressed up to take part in a TV commercial shoot.

Turned out in pirate colours, fantastic outfits, make up and assortment of pirate tools, the group formed up for a rebellion against the invading force consisting of authentic local pirate Cap'n Dan Van Blarcom and North American tourist visitor Niki Weinold as the pirate girl. The final rush down by the beach had the local pirates repel the invaders with colourful "jelly cannonballs" specially manufactured to be fun and eco friendly.

The TV commercial will be produced by Blue Turtle Digital using footage and staging by ChannelWhitsunday.com. Screening of the TV commercial will be through Channel Ten, who are fantastic sponsors of the Whitsunday Reef Festival along with fellow South Cross Auradio entities, Sea FM and Hot FM.

The Whitsunday Reef Festival would like to thank the parents and pirate children that turned out for such a fine show that will wildly promote the festival across Northern Queensland.

The shoot was assisted by volunteer of professional services from French TV producer Emmeline Barre-Minos, local dive photographer, Gary Farr, photographer Ziggy Ziggler. WRF committee members Margie Murphy and Lisa Stockdow were on hand to assist the organising the shoot headed by John Nayler. Costume supplied by Jenny at The Costume Shoppe.
